Tourism and sport together in Umbria

As Was Pointed Out During a Debate Organised at The Umbria Stand at The Recent "bit" Tourism Trade Show, sport has great potential for tourism, not only for its intrinsic value, but also for its ability to complement and enhance major events. Examples of this are the tennis and basketball in Todi that will accompany the Todi Festival this summer. And cycling in Umbria, by road bike or by mountain bike and with the help of two detailed guidebooks, allows visitors to enjoy a different Umbria, as they visit its villages, abbeys and "open-air museums" (the many art treasures spread throughout the region) and enjoy the many cultural events programmed for the spring and summer. A few words about "The Other Giotto", the series of regional itineraries featured in the Giotto exhibition currently being held at the Vittoriano in Rome. Giotto is particularly important for Umbria: if Umbria means Saint Francis, in the sense of spirituality, nature, respect for the environment and the countryside, then Umbria also means Giotto, who expresses and glorifi es all of these in his painting. I would like to take the opportunity to pay tribute to the exhibition in Rome, which, by carefully reconstructing the period Giotto spent in Umbria, gives us a clearer picture of our past, a past that continues to live on in our countryside, in our woods and in our small towns and villages.
