Umbria. What comes to your mind when you hear this word? Rolling green hills? Churches? The medieval period? Saints, farms, olive oil? Sagrantino wine? Of course. You've named all the stereotypes. Now think of a city in Umbria. The first one that comes to your mind. Perugia? Assisi? Gubbio? That's good. Others? Spello?
Of course. Any mh? Nothing? Alright, we'll help you: Foligno.
Foligno? Yes. Here as well, you will find churches, saints, green hills, farmer's fields.
The food is healthy and delicious. But from the 25-27 of June, 2009, Foligno will host Dancity, a festival of electronic music and digital art forms, this year celebrating it's fourth edition (entitled Please Touch). In Foligno, with its baroque alleyways, medieval churches, restaurants and enotecas, we await the arrival of the "digital generation," displaying the various forms of this new cultural movement, prepared to experience the sounds and sights generated by the encounter between creative energies and new media. Dancity is not the first festival dedicated to electronic and digital culture, but it sets itself apart by presenting these artists in unpredictable ways, and in unexpected locations.
Dancity unites digital culture with the history of the Umbrian hills.
You will see Mouse on Mars sample the bells of the Cathedral of Foligno and perform together with the local group Banda di Belfih; you will enter the former church of San Domenico (with frescoes from the 1300's) to hear the latest creation by American dj/producer Carl Craig together with Spanish pianist Francesco Tristano, master of Euro techno Moritz Von Oswald and musicians born and raised in Umbria; you'll see the renowned Blixa Bargeld join Alva Noto on the stage; you will by shocked and amazed by Goblin (yes, you heard right, responsible for "Profondo Rosso" and the soundtracks of Dario Argento) in a medieval courtyard.
All this combined with the possibility to dine on baroque dishes in the nearby osterias; you'll return to the hotel or agriturismo at dawn, after having danced the entire night, wandering the alleys of the historic city center: the music of the present superimposed on the cityscapes rooted in rich history. Forget what you think you know about Umbria. Welcome to Dancity. Welcome to Foligno.
