Umbriano: a town for sale

Immersed in the green of the woods, the town of Umbriano tells its silent story of the Valley through which the River Nera passes.
Uninhabited for more than seventy years, the town rises from the thick vegetation and can be reached by a mule track.

Historians affirm that its origins go back to the ancient Umbri peoples. Here is documented the presence of these peoples, traceable in some caves where cult symbols can be seen on the polished stone.
But it was at the dawn of the 9th century that Umbriano raised its tower, in defence of the Abbey of San Pietro in Valle, situated below on the opposite bank of the river.
